The $3.2 million project is intended to improve safety and mobility. It will replace the bridge over Wappinger Creek in the hamlet of Salt Point, Town of Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County.
The project includes a complete bridge replacement as well as an adjacent culvert. The new bridge will be equipped with metabolized steel girders with a cast-in-place bridge deck.
The new bridge will be wider than its predecessor due to the addition of two 4-foot shoulders. New lighting and decorative Texas-style aesthetic barriers will also be installed.
A part of the project also includes the reconfiguration of the nearby Hibernia Road intersection, which will be turned into a T intersection to increase safety and improve sight distance.
During the project, Salt Point Turnpike will have one lane of alternating traffic through the project area. Traffic will be controlled by a temporary signal during construction.
The project, in its entirety, is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2020.
“This project will go a long way to enhance public safety and traffic efficiency here locally and we are thrilled to see it get underway,” said Senator Susan Serino. “I thank the Department of Transportation for making the Salt Point Turnpike Bridge a priority and we look forward to seeing it come to completion.”
